The road to becoming a firefighter in Georgia might be a long one, but you can be sure that the result is well worth it. The pride that you will have when you can call yourself a firefighter, along with the knowledge that you are doing a job that can help save lives is one of the best feelings in the world. You don’t need to attend colleges and have degrees to become a firefighter in Georgia, although you might find that it can be helpful. How to Become a Firefighter in Georgia

To become a firefighter in Georgia, you will need to be at least 18 years old and have a GED or a high school diploma. You can have no felony convictions within 10 years of the date of employment or appointment. You also have to have good moral character, as judged by the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council. Naturally, you have to be in good shape as well, since the physical demands of being a firefighter are great. You will have to take an agility test to make sure you are up to the job.

You also have to take the Georgia Basic Firefighter Training Course and complete Basic Firefighter NPQ 1, 2, and 3. You can attend the Georgia Fire Academy, or you can do in house work at a local fire department. Local instructors can teach NPQ 1 and then you can schedule your test through Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training. You then need to pass your test before you can work as a firefighter.
