For much of the country, the growth rate for firefighters is lower than other types of jobs, at only 9%. The same is true in Delaware, but that doesn’t mean there are no jobs to be had. You have to look to find the job openings and keep applying. Getting advanced fire science degrees through colleges in the area can be a good thing to add to your resume.

Getting more training is always going to help give you an advantage when you are looking for a job. You should get emergency medical training, and keep up with your physical conditioning.

Firefighter Activity in the News

While most of the time, you hear about firefighters who risk their lives to put out fires and rescue people in burning buildings, their job can encompass quite a bit more. Recently near Muncie, firefighters attempted to rescue a woman whose car had fallen into a frigid pond. Two firefighters who arrived at the scene dove into the water, but found that the vehicle was upside down. While they weren’t able to rescue the woman in the car, it shows just how far firefighters are willing to go to save a life.
